Stick to Reading Club

Introduced in 2005

How Does the Jim Wilson's Couchiching Terriers Stick to Reading Club presented by Tim Hortons work?

Beginning in October of each school year and concluding in early March just before students leave for March break activities, Jim Wilson Couchiching Terriers players accompanied by a team management representative will visit scheduled schools and speak to and read with students to promote the values of reading, continued education and positive communication.

During classroom visits students are treated to Timbits, Terriers hockey pucks, reading club hats and Terriers V.I.P. tickets are given to the school's Principal for him/her to award students throughout the Terriers season for positive behaviour recognition and/or for special achievements.

(all participating schools will receive a Terriers Reading Club banner).

If you would like more information on the Terriers Stick to Reading Club or to book your school visit today, please call Elaine (Reading Club co-ordinator) at 326-0676.

Terriers 2009/10 Stick to Reading Club Contest

Each year the Terriers create and offer a Stick to Reading Club contest to students and teachers. Watch for the 2009/10 contest announcement - coming soon!

Terriers 2009/10 Stick to Reading Club School Spirit Night Competition

The Terriers want to again designate each of their 2009/10 regular season home games in Rama to one participating elementary school per game.  The Terriers will provide each school with enough game day tickets for the entire school, allowing each student to enjoy the game compliments of the Terriers.  The school that has the most students and teachers in attendance showing their school spirit for their selected game night will receive a financial contribution of $100.00 to $500.00 towards new books and/or related library equipment.

The amount being donated depends on your school's selected student participant to enter the on ice intermission shootout.  One lucky student will have a chance during the second period intermission of your game to shoot as many of the 25 pucks as possible from center ice into the open net within the 14 seconds on the clock.  Depending on how many pucks cross the goal line before the 14 seconds expires determines how much your school library will receive if your school wins the "school spirit night" contest at the end of the season.

0-10 pucks = $100.00

11-13 pucks = $200.00

14-16 pucks = $300.00

17-20 pucks = $400.00

21-25 pucks = $500.00

The Terriers will provide every student one free game ticket (students have to be accompanied by an adult as per arena rules) and will provide one free ticket to every teacher in your school.  The purpose of this contest is to strengthen our community relations and expand on our Terriers Stick to Reading Club, promote and encourage school spirit (students are encouraged to wear school colours, make banners and simply have fun at the game).  The Terriers want to have some energetic and noisy fans to help cheer them on!!!!
